Text Box: Our Director’s 15 Year Anniversary!

There are advantages, of course, to stipulating the length of time a person may serve on an agency’s board of directors, but there is an enormous downside, too!  When a board loses a member of the caliber of Mary Kay, it is hard to fill that empty chair (no matter how tiny that chair may be!  Often Board members perch on the small plastic seats meant for much younger and smaller persons).   In this case our Board will lose a participant who has, despite the demands of a young and active family and a time-consuming job, spent extra hours first as active Board member, then as Vice-President and for the last two years as President of the CCC.  She has been insightful, diplomatic, encouraging and gracious through the many vicissitudes of six years – board training, financial crises, enrollment crises to mention just a few –  and has guided us as we look to the future of one of Cornwall’s most beloved and important agencies.   The administration, teachers and Board of the Child Center, not to mention the children, will miss her terribly and wish her well as she steps down as President.

The Cornwall Child Center is proud to celebrate 15 years with Pam Brehm as our Director.  Pam’s diligence, calm managerial style, personal warmth and great sense of humor has served us well.  Pam has been able to nurture a harmonious relationship with staff, students, parents, the Board of Directors and the Cornwall community.

Pam has been prepared to meet our challenges.  She has empowered her staff to develop their individual strengths and with them has developed an excellent early childhood program.  She embraced the hard work  involved in earning the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation for the Center.  This accreditation ensures that we are accountable and maintain the highest child care and educational standards.

Eager to grow professionally, Pam has recently been accepted to the Connecticut Charts’-A-Course program, where she will be earning a masters level Director’s credential.  Sensitive to the evolving needs of our community, Pam, the Board of Directors, and her staff are also developing an infant-toddler program.

Congratulations, Pam, and thank you for 15 years of dedicated leadership.
